A child was born into a Pennsylvania farming family – post WWII. On her family tree, no artist ancestors appear. In her cultural environment, no artist mentors were present – nor was there cultural, intellectual, or political sophistication.
As the child grew, the flame for art within her grew. Self-guided, Ami attained a BFA (1969) and studied art history in Italy. Autumn of 1969, Ami moved to Manhattan to become an independent artist. In Greenwich and Soho a commitment to art was made and lived. Her creating community was primarily composed of jazz musicians and visual artists – purposefully living on the expanding membrane of humanity’s creative potential.
